Best Tall Building 2010 – Corten Steel

Broadcasting Place in Leeds has won one of the CTBUH`s annual regional awards for its architectural and design excellence - Best Tall Building in Europe 2010.
With a nod to famous local sculptor Sir Henry Moore, the distinctive look that Broadcasting Place features comes from the
Cor-Ten steel, a type of
metallic cladding that weathers into a rusty look giving it a textured but warm
colour palette, that is combined with a faceted elevation of five angled
elements that draw on the layered geological formations that can be found in
the Yorkshire Dales. The tower is made from weathered steel, which negates the need for
painting.
