Syria produces nearly one million tons of phosphate in the first quarter

According to statistics released recently by the Syrian Phosphate and Mineral Corporation, the total phosphate production in the first quarter of 2011 was 988,635 tons, 22 percentage points higher than the planned production of 809,800 tons, and the total sales volume was 882,724 tons. A total of 3 billion Syrian pounds (about 64 million U.S. dollars). The phosphate mining industry is a pillar industry in Syria's mining industry. According to estimates by the Syrian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, the annual output of Syrophosphate is about 4 million tons, of which 600,000 tons is used for fertilizer manufacture and the rest is exported to many countries.
