Cold anti-dumping melamine exports to the EU remain strong

The Ministry of Commerce announced that on May 13, 2011, the European Union issued an announcement deciding to impose anti-dumping tariffs on melamine imported from China. The form of taxation is fixed at 415 euros per ton, and the country’s three cooperatives have implemented 1,153 euros per ton. The minimum price for exporting to Europe above this price is not subject to tax.

Su Yanjun, an information researcher at Western America, said: The EU’s anti-dumping measures have had little impact on China's melamine exports, because melamine exports to the EU have been reduced significantly. In 2010, exports to the EU accounted for only 10% of total exports. The focus of the future export of melamine in China should be in Asia and the Americas. At the same time, melamine producers responded calmly, and they believe that EU anti-dumping has little effect on them.

In addition, the cumulative amount of melamine exported by China in the first quarter of 2011 was 51,299 tons, an increase of 88% over the same period of last year. Exports remain strong. The top three exporters are Asian countries, Malaysia, India and South Korea.
