Dalian Institute of Chemical Industry has made progress in the research of solid oxide fuel cells

Recently, Chinese High-Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (DNL0302), led by Researcher Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Assistant Professor Chen Xiaobo of the University of Missouri Kansas City have made progress in the research of solid oxide fuel cell cooperation. Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are efficient and clean energy conversion technologies. They can use natural gas, coal gasification purification gas, and biomass gas to generate electricity. The efficiency of electricity generation can reach over 60%, and CO2 emissions can be reduced. In recent years, low-temperature solid oxide fuel cell technologies have been researched and developed at home and abroad, but the cathodes either fail to meet the application requirements in terms of electrocatalytic activity or in terms of operational stability.

The team developed the LSM-YSZ micro-nano-cathode battery, which has two to three times the output performance of a conventional LSM-YSZ cathode battery and is stable at 600oC to 800oC. In the LSM-YSZ micro-nano cathode, the close contact between the nano-scale LSM particles and the YSZ particles increases the interface density of the three-phase reaction and substantially increases the oxygen reduction activity of the cathode. At the same time, the interfacial stability between nanoscale LSM particles and nanoscale YSZ particles enhances the stability of the cathode under operating conditions.
