New report from the United States confirmed that furniture, furniture, formaldehyde and cancer

Business News Agency December 30th The “Report on Carcinogens” issued by the US Department of Health the previous day listed 8 chemicals on the list of carcinogenic or possibly carcinogenic. Formaldede, which is commonly found in building materials and homes, has been shown to cause carcinogenesis. A large number of exposures will increase the risk of nasopharyngeal cancer or blood cancer. Styrene, which is contained in plastic products and **, may cause lymphoma.

This is the 12th report of the National Institute of Toxicology of the US Ministry of Health. The last report of the same kind was published in 2005. Currently, there are 240 chemical substances in the list. Formaldehyde is a colorless gas with a pungent odor. It is widely used in building materials, including paints and wood products. Therefore, newly renovated houses release more formaldehyde. The preservative used in medicine, formalin, contains more than 30% of formaldehyde. Using straight hair products and smoking also inhales formaldehyde.

In the second issue of the Report on Carcinogenic Substances released in 1981, formaldehyde has been classified as "reasonably expected carcinogens." Recent studies have confirmed that the amount of formaldehyde absorbed by the body is related to the risk of cancer, and it has therefore been upgraded to "identify carcinogens."

Professor Cao Hongwei, a guest professor at the Department of Biological Sciences at CUHK, said that many articles contain formaldehyde, such as plastics and other polymers, which may degrade under exposure to heat and temperatures, releasing formaldehyde, and people will inevitably absorb it. However, he believes that the amount of formaldehyde exposed by the public in daily life is slight and there is no need to panic.
