Germany Keyence successfully developed silicone 3D printing materials
Recently, German industrial grade 3D printer manufacturer Keyence announced that the company has developed a real silicone 3D printing material.
It is understood that after the launch of the AGILISTA series of industrial 3D printers, Keyence realized from the feedback of users that silicone 3D printing materials have great potential in the 3D printing industry, so it decided to develop. This new material can be used in jetted 3D printing systems. At present, the company has developed a printing system that can “tilt†silicone droplets and cure them with UV radiation. The printing process of this process is extremely accurate, and the strength of the printed parts is also considerable.
Although many silicone-like 3D printed materials have appeared before, the real silicone material has never been printed because it is extremely soft and elastic. The company's engineers explained that they kept the original properties of the silicone material as much as possible during the development process. Unlike the “silica-like†printing materials that have appeared before, Keyence has developed a material that is more resistant to the environment and better in shape retention. This silicone 3D printing material is expected to completely end the injection molding process of flexible materials.
Of course, like most 3D printed materials, this silicone 3D printed material still requires support material when printed. However, since the support material is water-soluble, it can be taken out simply by flushing, which makes the thickness of the printed layer thinner and the print quality is not affected.
This silicone printing material is very versatile, and Keyence points out that it can print seals, O-rings, and even soft fixtures to protect sensitive electronic components. Of course, the time to print these items is much faster than injection molding.
