Can plastic bottle packaging be accepted by the wine industry?

The PET bottle has a very strong drop resistance and is very light weight. The 0.7 liter PET bottle weighs only 50 grams, which is one tenth of the weight of the same capacity glass bottle. It also has good recycling, production, transportation and storage costs. The plasticity of its packaging design is also strong.
Nowadays, many wines have begun to use PET plastic bottles for the packaging of high-end wines. For example, the Bodega Matarromera wine estate in Spain tried to package quality wines in plastic bottles. The Welmoed wine estate in South Africa also gradually replaced the traditional 750 ml glass bottles with plastic bottles. British supermarket giant Marks & Spencer has also started selling 0.25 liters of plastic bottled red wine from 2010. Even airlines are more willing to use plastic bottled wine to serve passengers!
However, some in the industry are not optimistic about the use of plastic bottles for wine packaging, that "plastic bottles with higher UV radiation and oxygen migration, will affect the quality of alcoholic beverages, from reducing the shelf life of alcohol."
According to research conducted by research firm Geisenheim, modern processing techniques can improve the internal air tightness of plastic bottles and reduce the impact of plastic bottle packaging on wine. In addition, a more airtight plastic bottle cap can seal the opened bottle again, thereby extending the shelf life of the shelf.
