It was mainly used for processing feed soybean meal and edible oil. The sales volume of edible oil reached 7.76 million tons, and the per capita amount was as high as 28 kg. . In Europe, 75% of corn and 60% of soybeans come from the United States, Brazil, and Argentina.

Huang Dazhao said that the development of safety issues in genetically modified technology is of utmost importance. In 1996, the Ministry of Agriculture promulgated relevant regulations, and since then it has risen to the State Council's laws and regulations, has achieved international connection, and has been strictly implemented in scientific review and administrative approval. For example, the scientific evaluation of GM rice research was done for 11 years. It was not until 2009 that a certificate was issued. The standard is stricter than international requirements.

29 countries planted GM crops last year

Global development of GM crops is strong. According to authoritative information provided by experts, in 2010, the global acreage of genetically modified crops reached 148 million hectares, which was 87 times that of 1996, with an average annual increase of nearly 5 times in 15 years. In 1996, there were only 6 countries that planted GM crops in the world and 29 in 2010. The planting area of ​​the four major GM crops also reached new heights. Four-fifths (81%) of the global soybean area, two-thirds (64%) of the cotton area, one-third of the corn area (29%), and a quarter (23%) of the area of ​​the rape planted All are genetically modified varieties.

Although nearly 40 countries and regions around the world have not formally approved the commercial cultivation of GM crops, they are allowed to conduct pilot studies or import GM crop raw materials for feed and food processing. In 2010, eight EU member states approved the planting of genetically modified crops such as insect-resistant maize; the EU Biosafety Commission announced that countries can decide whether or not to plant genetically modified crops; Sweden first approved the cultivation of transgenic high-quality starch potatoes. The overall strength of China's transgenic breeding is far behind that of developed countries, and the capacity for independent innovation needs to be further improved. However, at present, some aspects of cotton, corn, and rice transgenic technology are among the most advanced in the world.
