The Institute of Metals of the Chinese Academy of Sciences successfully held the 2009 International Conference on Materials Education

From August 30th to September 2nd, the "A Symposium on Educational Methods in Materials Science for Chinese Universities and Industries" was held in Shenyang.

The seminar invited 10 material education experts from the domestic and foreign materials field, and made 14 special reports at the conference. Prof. David Embury is a professor of materials science and engineering at McMaster University in Canada. He is a well-known scientist in the field of international materials. Former President of the Metal Society, winner of the Canadian Metals Society Gold Medal. Prof. Barry Muddle is a professor of engineering at Monash University in Australia. He is a well-known scholar in the field of international light metal design research. He is an ARC Fellow of Australia and a recipient of outstanding ARC scientists. He has made outstanding contributions in the cooperation and joint teaching of magnesium alloys in China and Australia. Prof. Antony Rollett is a professor of materials science and engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in the United States, a renowned materials scientist and educator. Prof. Yves Brechet is a professor at the Grenoble (INPG) Institute of Technology in France, a renowned material scholar who has made outstanding contributions to the combination of research and industry. The heads of the 19 leading university materials colleges, professors and student representatives, representatives of 6 research institutes in the field of materials science and engineering and representatives of 2 companies, nearly 100 representatives attended the seminar. The chairman of the conference is co-chaired by Director Lu Ke and Professor David Embury.

Through the report of the experts, the seminar gave participants a comprehensive understanding of the system of education, education, education and education methods in China and the West, so that they can learn from each other and discuss how material education develops in the new era. Cost-based postgraduate courses, how to teach students new ways of science, engineering and innovation, how to strengthen the combination of classroom teaching and laboratory (training) teaching, strengthen the combination of art education and engineering (science) education, how to strengthen engineering education and Contact with industry and international cooperation, how to build a more valuable education system for our students and society, and so on.

The participating units in China also concentrated on the status quo and educational achievements in the field of material education in China in the form of wall posters. In order to facilitate the better understanding of the conference report by some delegates, the seminar also provided simultaneous interpretation.

This seminar will definitely contribute to the development of China's material education, strengthen the cooperation between materials education and industry, and strengthen cooperation and exchanges between the domestic and international materials industry.
